A Brief History Of The Hotel Gallery
The city hotel has been owned and operated by Steve and Sally Watson for the past 24 years. The hotel was built in 1852 and served as the city's local hotel and was a strong focal point from 1898 through 1925. The building contains three floors accented with a beautiful spiral staircase in the lobby. To this day you can visit the renovated city hotel and climb the staircase to the second and third floors where guests once stayed. The former guest rooms are now home to a wide variety of shops, artists’ studios, and galleries.
While visiting the Hotel Gallery you will experience a casual and relaxed shopping atmosphere. We specialize in American handcrafted as well as locally made artwork such as pottery, batik, watercolors, photography, jewelry, clothing and antiques. The gallery also carries a beautiful selection of handmade oriental rugs and other specialty imported items. We pride ourselves on the unique and eclectic mix of high-end selection of items which keeps our customers coming back.
At the Hotel Gallery we have a very strong sense of community so we have created a variety of public spaces throughout the building. You can sit and relax in the hotel’s coffee room - where the true Spirit of Freedom can be found. You can also host your own special event, workshop, or intimate gathering in our Tippecanoe Room, which flows out into our outdoor courtyard. Our courtyard is equipped with its own wood fired pizza oven and fire pit. While the pizza oven was being built by a local craftsman, we discovered the Hotel’s original well. The old well has been restored and is now used as our very own “wishing well” where all of your wishes and prayers may come true!
As our lives are constantly growing and changing, we become increasingly aware of who we are as individuals as well as who we are in the community. It is our desire at The Hotel Gallery to achieve and produce a unique market and quality product lines while creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers. All are welcome!
